New step towards the reintroduction of the Nubian Ibex in the Shouf
On 11-14 February 2017 a team from SBR and experts on ibex conservation from the Italian organization “Istituto Oikos” visited the Wadi Rum Nature Reserve in south Jordan to negotiate the transfer of a herd of 12 Nubian ibex (Capra nubiana) to the Shouf, where they will be reintroduced in the course of 2017 after they went extinct some 200 years ago. The first step of this operation will be a fence-to-fence transfer of the animals from Wadi Rum to an enclosure situate within SBR. This operation is framed within the strategy to restore biodiversity and the natural interaction between vegetation, herbivores and carnivores in the Shouf.
