The Aterno River Third Edition Festival
On June 23rd , the third edition of the Aterno River Festival took place in Fontecchio, at the ancient Roman bridge. This annual appointment re-launches the Aterno River Contract, an agreement between regional and local authorities and private actors aiming at enhancing the river environmental and cultural value. Pico Fonticulano and ILEX-Torre del Cornone organized the event. Despite the heat, more than 120 people participated.
The Aterno river was the main character of this beautiful day, together with the outstanding food and the ‘tipsy’Vitivinicola’ music.
The Cooperativa Bosso’guides took many participants on canoe tours along the Aterno shores, while Andrea Agapito (WWF environmental expert) and Ettore Palusci (environmental researcher) accompanied the most adventurous during an hour walk, discovering bizarre aquatic animals, plants and seaweeds. The Aterno is not one of the Italian cleanest rivers, but it is in good shape and full of life. Children enjoyed the company of Barbara Saturni (Il Bosco del Fauno), who invented with them fairy-tales of the enchanted forest and took them in the mysterious universe of the traditional local stories. Pico Fonticulano and its ‘5000 stars’ chefs proposed a menu of typical Mediterranean course dishes, like the pumpkins cream with wild asparagus on the top.
