Lipu is the Italian partner of BirdLife International, the most important network of organizations for the conservation of birds and biodiversity. Lipu has more than 30,000 supporters. Its programme is organized according to the following areas: species protection; sites and habitat conservation; public awareness and education; lobby and policies. Lipu manages 25 nature reserves situated in Italy, ranging from wetlands to steppe habitats. National events and intensive press campaigns play a major role in spreading Lipu’s message countrywide. Conservation projects have been carried out on many endangered bird species. Among the most important results achieved, are: more rigorous hunting laws, a reduced list of hunting species and a shorter hunting season; best laws on Protected Areas and the gazetting of new Reserves and National Parks, including many IBAs (important Bird Areas).

Ilex Italy (Italian Landscape Exploration) is a private company promoted by a group of educators, researches, and practitioners in the fields of biodiversity conservation, rural development, social science, and natural resource management. ILEX has its headquarters in the village of Fontecchio, located within the Sirente-Velino Natural Park. It consists of a core team of five professionals, and a number of part-time collaborators and volunteers. The core business of ILEX is: 1. the design, development and delivery of training and other products related to “local distinctiveness” and landscape interpretation; 2. the design and implementation of conservation and development projects in the area of SVNP. ILEX also works with local public authorities and private stakeholders on sustainable tourism planning and the design of land marketing plans.

Al-Shouf Cedar Society (ACS) was founded in 1994, with the specific objective of helping establish and managing the Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve. The core mission of ACS is the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the Shouf, in cooperation with the local community, through the development and implementation of environmental, awareness and eco-tourism activities. Since 1996 ACS manages the Shouf Biosphere Reserve in cooperation with Governmental Appointed Committee and under the umbrella of Ministry of Environment. The management team of ACS consists of approximately 30 permanent staff. Over the past twelve years, ACS has designed and implemented a portfolio of projects for a total budget of approx. 4,000,000 USD.
